Minutes of the January 18, 2011 re-organization meeting
- Called to order at 7:06 by Javier Valdez from the King County Democrats.
- Javier called from the adoption of the agenda, seconded and passed by voice vote.
- Selection of ballot counting committee: Bob, Cheryl, Sarajane, Steve; passed by voice vote.
- Election for a temporary secretary, Samantha Casne; seconded and passed by voice vote.
- Hillary Madsen called for the adoption of the by-laws; seconded and passed by voice vote.
- Election of the Chair
- Scott Forbes-Nominated by Vanessa. Vanessa and Hillary spoke on Scott’s behalf. Scott gave a 2 minute speech.
- Chris Maryatt-Nominated by Sharon. Sharon and Suzie Cheary spoke on Chris’s behalf. Gave a 2 minute speech.
- Questions from the audience:
- Who did each of you support for in the Presidential primary and why? (posed by Gina Marie)
- What did each of you do to get Patty Murray elected? (posed by Kole Welsh)
- Despite current turnout, what would you do to make our meetings more interesting? (posed by Jon Morgan)
- Election results: 44 PCO’s signed in. All 44 voted. Scott: 30 Chris: 14. Ceremonial passing of the gavel from Hillary to Scott.

- Election of the Secretary and Treasurer
- Secretary-responsible for taking and posting minutes; Samantha Casne was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Treasurer (1st Vice Chair)-Responsible for tracking donations and members. Chris Maryatt was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Election of the Vice-Chairs
- Vice-Chair for Recruitment-responsible for recruiting/retaining PCOs-Ian Wesley-Smith was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Vice-Chair for Elections-responsible for GOTV, sample ballot, endorsements-Rob Dolan was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Vice-Chair for Technology-responsible for website, district data-Carrie Zanger was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Vice-Chair for Communications-responsible for electronic/print media, newsletter-Vanessa Casavant was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Vice-Chair for Events-Responsible for parties, fundraising- Josh Castle was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Vice-Chair for Programs-responsible for monthly speakers, welcome committee-Julian Wheeler was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- Election of the District Representatives
- Washington State Central Committee Woman-Sharon Page was nominated and seconded; was posed a question from the membership; passed by voice vote.
- Washington State Central Committee Man-David Kunselman was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- King County Democratic Central Committee Woman-Linda Clifton was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- King County Democratic Central Committee Woman Alternate-Tara Gallagher was nominated and seconded; passed by voice vote.
- King County Democratic Central Committee Man-Will Affleck-Asch and Michael Maddux were nominated and seconded. Each candidate gave a 1 minute speech. 2 more PCO’s had joined the meeting at this time for a total of 46 voting PCOs. Election results: Michael: 31 Will: 15. Announcements were made while the votes were being tallied.

- Voted to be “not timely” by the Chair. Not adopted.
- Condemning the Arizona shootings, brought by Julian Wheeler
- Voted to be “not timely” by the Chair. Called for a vote. Show of hands: 9 yay 18 nay 7 abstained. Discussion about the resolution. Was not adopted.
