7:10 PM - General Election Endorsements
- State Ballot Initiative positions recommended by the 43rd LD Exec Board
- No on Initiative 1125 (Tim Eyman)
- Yes on SJR 8205 (amendment on presidential election voting eligibility). Vote as a slate. Motion carries with overwhelming support. We endorse a NO vote on 1125 and a YES vote on SJR 8205.
- No on SJR 8206 (amendment on the budget stabilization account) . Movement to separate this one out. Will vote on it later. 65 ballots. 7.7 % voted yes. 73.8% voted no. We will take a NO position in this race.
Contested Races:
- Seattle City Council, Position 1-Bobby Forch, Jean Godden. Results: 65 ballots cast. 1 for No Endorsement. 41.83 % for Jean Godden. 66.1 % for Bobby Forch. Bobby Forch receives our endorsement.
- Seattle City Council, Position 3-Bruce Harrell, Brad Meacham. 68 ballots cast. 1 for no endorsement. 2 for dual. Bruce Harrell 54% Brad Meacham 47%. Neither one received 60%, so we go into a re-count. 76 ballots. Harrell received 57.9% Meacham received 38.2% No endorsement received 4 votes. No position in this race.
- Seattle School Board, Position 1-Peter Maier, Sharon Peaslee. 69 ballots total. 39 % for Maier. Peaslee received 56.5 %. Eligible for reconsideration. Peaslee receives 41 votes out of 61 and receives our endorsement.
- Seattle School Board, Position 2-Sherry Carr, Kate Martin. 68 ballots. Carr received 64%. Martin received 41%. Carr receives our endorsement.
- Seattle School Board, Position 6-Marty McLaren, Steve Sundquist. 65 ballots cast. McLaren received 44.6 % of the ballots cast. Sundquist received 50.7% of the ballots cast. Eligible for reconsideration. 55 votes cast. 47% voted in favor of Sundquist. McLaren received 49%. No endorsement in this race.
Ballot Measures:
- Initiative 1183, concerning liquor: beer, wine and spirits (Hard liquor). 64 ballots cast. 9.4% voted in favor. 81.2% voted against it. 9.4% said no endorsement. We will take a no position on 1183.
- Initiative 1163, concerning long-term care workers and services. 68 % voted yes. 27.9% voted no. 9.8% voted for no endorsement. We will take a YES position on 1163.
- Families and Education Levy. 65 ballots. 90% voted in favor. 1 person voted no. 3 people voted to take no position. We will endorse the Families and Education Levy.
- Seattle Transportation Benefit District Proposition 1. 65 ballots cast. 52% voted yes. 24 peopled voted No.7 people voted no endorsement. No position in this election.

- Resolutions & Motions
- Resolutions for a Ballot Drop Box on the University of Washington Campus - Proposed by Andrew J. Lewis.
- Motion to amend. Suggest adding all county council rather than just the 5 named. Motion is amended to include all 9 names of the King County council members. Also, amend to reflect that the nearest ballot drop box is 1 mile away or so. Amendment carries. Motion carries and we support the resolution.
- Motion to contribute $200 to Michelle Buetow’s campaign - Proposed by Michael Maddux.
- 11-22 fails to split the money. Ayes have it and she receives $200.
- Resolution Urging Congress to Reinstate the Banking Act of 1933. - Proposed by Barbara Zepeda.
- Motion to strike the entire resolution and replace with the sentence "RESOLVED that the 43rd District Democrats support reinstating the Glass-Steagall Act." Motion is amended and carried. Motion to reinstate Glass-Steagall carries.
- Good of the Order
- Report from Sharon Paige and David Kunselman. Report on upcoming caucuses and redistricting.
- Volunteer to monitor ballot counting.
- Sign a pledge for clean air.
- Seattle Democratic Meet-up group. Fighting for single payer health care. October 15th event at Ballard Library. Screening of the movie Sicko and will have special guest speakers.
- New Energy Movement. Against Carbon and Nuclear power and instead promote alternatives.
- Congratulate the Chair and the ballot committee for an excellent meeting.
