APRIL 2020 In Person Legislative Caucus Cancelled, Replaced with online delegate election.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak the in-person legislative district caucus have been canceled and will be replaced with an on-line process of delegate selection.
43rd Members and PCOs,
We hope that you and your loved ones are safe and well during these trying times. The ongoing crisis has illustrated the power and importance of collective action and our Democratic principles and we thank you all for the work you are doing to keep our community safe and healthy.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak the in-person legislative district caucus have been canceled and will be replaced with an on-line process of delegate selection.
Those interested in running for delegate to the state and/or national conventions must register online. PCOs (elected and appointed) will be voting for delegates; those delegates go to the state convention; and elect the national-convention delegates at the Congressional District caucus, which will also be on-line.
As of the date this is posted, plans are still going forward for the State convention in Tacoma in June and the National convention in Milwaukee in July.
Senator Bernie Sanders and Vice President Joe Biden were the only two candidates to reach the viability threshold in our LD, and as such will be the only candidates to receive delegates. Our PCOs will vote to elect the following delegates.
Sanders: 37 delegates; 18 alternates
Biden: 24 delegates; 12 alternates
For more information about the new caucus process please visit www.waelectioncenter.com or our page on how to run for delegate.
March General Meeting Cancelled
Following the guidelines of King County Public Health our March 17th meeting has been cancelled to protect the safety of our members and community.
Fellow 43rd District Democrats,
I'm writing to inform you that due to the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and following the recommendations of King County Public Health we have decided to cancel our March 17th general meeting. While we are disappointed to lose this important opportunity to gather and organize for 2020 we believe that canceling the meeting is necessary to protect the health and safety of both our members and the community at large. I encourage everyone to read and follow the recommendations in order to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community and reduce the number of people infected.
We are currently discussing options for an online meeting in order to share the information on our upcoming Legislative District Caucus and how to run for delegate. Please watch for additional information in the coming days. In the mean time, if you have any questions about the caucus or running for delegate they can likely be answered at www.waelectioncenter.com. If you have any further questions please email me at chair@43rddemocrats.org and I will get back to you soon.
Our board is currently in discussions about how to provide more options for remote participation at our meetings. If you would like to join those conversations please let us know and we will put you in touch with those doing that work.
We still need volunteers to help plan and run our 43rd Legislative District Caucus on April 26th. Please mark the date on your calendar and let us know if you are available to help out!
Our next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, April 21st at Seattle Central College and, pending further recommendations from public health authorities, I look forward to seeing you all there.
Sincerely,
Scott Alspach
Chair, 43rd District Democrats

Executive Board Supports HB 2907 Without Preemption
The 43rd District Democrats Executive Board has sent a letter to 43rd Legislative District Representative Nicole Macri indicating their support of HB 2907, of which Rep. Macri is the lead sponsor, and their opposition to the potential inclusion of a pre-emption clause which would prevent Seattle or other municipalities from passing a similar progressive business tax.
