43rd LD Summer BBQ - September 17, 2023

Join with other 43rd LD Democrats in person for an end-of-summer BBQ on September 17 from 11am-2pm. ( RSVP to get location information, which is a short walk from the Westlake Light rail station or the SLU Tram.)

Summer is coming to a close, schools are starting soon, and the drive to general election will soon begin. Join with other 43rd LD Democrats in person for an end-of-summer BBQ on September 17 from 11am-2pm. ( RSVP to get location information, which is a short walk from the Westlake Light rail station or the SLU Tram.)

We will have plenty of food, drinks, paint, games, and the space for you to meet your local candidates! There will be vegetarian friendly options available. The event will also be supporting 43rd District businesses: Dahlia Bakery and Plum Bistro.

As part of the event, we will take some time to put together hygiene kits for Mary’s place. The items requested by the organization can be found under ‘personal hygiene’ here. If you would like to contribute towards any of these items, please sign up here.

Candidate Forum for Seattle City Council D3 - June 13 (and SEA D3/KCC D4 May 23)

The 43rd LD Democrats are excited to partner with the 46th Democrats and the Young Democrats of University of Washington to host Candidate Forums for Seattle City Council D3/D4 and King Co. Council D4. District 4 City Council/King County Council Forum on May 23 from 5:30-7:00 pm, moderated by Crystal Fincher, and District 3 Forum at KEXP, at 472 1st Ave N on June 13, from 5:30 to 7pm moderated by Erica C. Barnett.

Hello 43rd neighbors!  We invite you to attend two forums taking place in the next month(s): 

District 3 Forum at KEXP, at 472 1st Ave N on June 13, from 5:30 to 7pm. 

The departure of Kshama Sawant led to enthusiastic leadership bids for this City Council position.  We are excited to partner with the 37th Dems and Tech4Housing on this forum. The diversity of candidates, and socio-economic demographics that live within the 43rd and 37th districts felt like it needed to be in an accessible, artful, cultural, industrial, and relaxing place: KEXP.

Subjects include but are not limited to:


District 4 City Council/King County Council Forum Was Held May 23 from 5:30-7:00 pm. 

We are excited to partner with the 36th & 46th Democrats and the Young Democrats of University of Washington in this academic setting, as they organize empowered voters and leaders to shape the future environments we will share and inhabit.


It is vital to collaborate and support our interconnected districts when there are such important issues at stake that affect our livelihoods, and the future of the city. We are excited to work together as legislative districts, united in creating educational spaces for our city. If you have any questions about these collaborations,activations of creative and educational spaces, please feel free to reach out.  If you wish to sponsor this forum, and future forums and programming for the 43rd, 46th, and 37th Dems, it will enable us to create better spaces for improved solutions together.

At the 43rd LD Democrats June 20th 2023 General and Endorsements Meeting, we’ll discuss the Candidate Forums, Pride Brunch coming up on June 25, PCO Appointments, resolutions, and ENDORSEMENTS.

Endorsements

In order to cast your vote as a member of the 43rd District Democrats, you must register as a member at least ten days before the endorsement vote.

Final Notice - if you are a new member and have not yet registered with the 43rd LD Democrats, you have until 11:59pm on June 11, 2023 to become eligible to vote to endorse candidates. Returning members who had active memberships in 2022 can re-register as late as June 19.

ENDORSEMENT PROCESS

The membership will vote on endorsements at our June and September meetings. Please see the Updated 2023 Endorsement Rules for detailed guidance.

VOTING ELIGIBLITY

Voting on 43rd District Democrats Endorsements is limited to the following groups.

  • All current Elected and Appointed Precinct Committee Officers. All appointed Precinct Coordinators.

  • All 43rd District Democrats members who joined or renewed their membership at least ten (10) calendar days prior to the endorsements meeting.

  • All 43rd District Democrats members must have active membership by the start of the endorsement meeting. If you still need to renew your membership please do so ASAP so that we can get you your voting code before the meeting begins.

As of Feb 17, Initiative Measure I-135 leads in polls by 14 points thanks to voters concerned for Seattle’s ability to provide permanent, affordable housing. As always, thank you for voting, and thank you for getting out the vote.

43rd LD Reorganization - January 17, 2023

Our reorg for the 43rd LD Democrats is January 17, 2023. The reorg is when we choose our board to represent our membership. In the coming biennial, under the leadership of the new board, the 43rd will have the opportunity to influence the Seattle City Council elections, state & federal races, King County elections, and the Washington State legislative sessions.

What’s a “reorg”? Reorg is how we choose our board to represent our membership, and is mandated by state law every two years. In the coming biennial, the 43rd will have the opportunity to influence the Seattle City Council elections, state & federal races, King County elections, and the Washington State legislative sessions. 

At our January reorg meeting, we’ll elect every board position (see descriptions here). Only PCOs elected in 2022 (those who either filed and were unopposed or won their election) can vote for the following board positions:

  • Chair

  • Vice-Chair

  • State Committee Members

  • King County Committee Members & alternates

All voting members can vote for the committee chairs and other positions. If you are an elected PCO or paid membership dues during 2022 and reside in the 43rd, you are a voting member for this reorg. These positions are:

  • Secretary

  • Chair—Communications committee

  • Chair—Elections committee

  • Chair—Fundraising committee

  • Chair—Meetings and Events committee

  • Chair—Membership committee

  • Chair—PCO committee

  • Chair—Policy and Advocacy committee

Vote! And Hear from Our State Representatives! November 2022 General Meeting

We've got a full month in November! At our November 15 General Meeting, Senator Jamie Pedersen and Representative Frank Chopp will discuss their legislative priorities for the upcoming 2023 legislative session. They'll give us tips on how to engage with the legislative process, and you'll have an opportunity to ask questions.

November 15 General Meeting

At our November 15 General Meeting, Senator Jamie Pedersen and Representative Frank Chopp will discuss their legislative priorities for the upcoming 2023 legislative session. They'll give us tips on how to engage with the legislative process, and you'll have an opportunity to ask questions. (See the full agenda here.)

To help them understand what we're interested in hearing about, and to help us manage the Q&A, we've created a super short survey. Please take less than 5 minutes to fill it out.

If you haven't submitted your ballot, please take just a few minutes this weekend to fill it out and drop it into the mail or walk it to the nearest drop box.
