43rd LD Summer BBQ - September 17, 2023

Summer is coming to a close, schools are starting soon, and the drive to general election will soon begin. Join with other 43rd LD Democrats in person for an end-of-summer BBQ on September 17 from 11am-2pm. We will have plenty of food, drinks, paint, games, and the space for you to meet your local candidates! There will be vegetarian friendly options available. The event will also be supporting 43rd District businesses: Dahlia Bakery and Plum Bistro.
As part of the event, we will take some time to put together hygiene kits for Mary’s place. The items requested by the organization can be found under ‘personal hygiene’ here. If you would like to contribute towards any of these items, please sign up here.

The departure of Kshama Sawant led to enthusiastic leadership bids for this City Council position. We are excited to partner with the 37th Dems and Tech4Housing on this forum. The diversity of candidates, and socio-economic demographics that live within the 43rd and 37th districts felt like it needed to be in an accessible, artful, cultural, industrial, and relaxing place: KEXP.

Endorsements
In order to cast your vote as a member of the 43rd District Democrats, you must register as a member at least ten days before the endorsement vote.
Final Notice - if you are a new member and have not yet registered with the 43rd LD Democrats, you have until 11:59pm on June 11, 2023 to become eligible to vote to endorse candidates. Returning members who had active memberships in 2022 can re-register as late as June 19.
ENDORSEMENT PROCESS
The membership will vote on endorsements at our June and September meetings. Please see the Updated 2023 Endorsement Rules for detailed guidance.
VOTING ELIGIBLITY
Voting on 43rd District Democrats Endorsements is limited to the following groups.
All current Elected and Appointed Precinct Committee Officers. All appointed Precinct Coordinators.
All 43rd District Democrats members who joined or renewed their membership at least ten (10) calendar days prior to the endorsements meeting.
All 43rd District Democrats members must have active membership by the start of the endorsement meeting. If you still need to renew your membership please do so ASAP so that we can get you your voting code before the meeting begins.

As of Feb 17, Initiative Measure I-135 leads in polls by 14 points thanks to voters concerned for Seattle’s ability to provide permanent, affordable housing. As always, thank you for voting, and thank you for getting out the vote.

Judge Joe Campagna, who was elected to King Co. District Court in Shoreline in 2018, where he served until he was appointed in 2022 by Gov. Jay Inslee to King Co. Superior Court.
Judge Coreen Wilson, a career civil litigator and recent chair of the City of North Bend Economic Development Commission, who was appointed in 2022 by Gov. Jay Inslee to King County Superior Court.
We'll hear presentations on key legislation: Universal Healthcare and Ranked Choice Voting.

Our reorg for the 43rd LD Democrats is January 17, 2023. The reorg is when we choose our board to represent our membership. In the coming biennial, under the leadership of the new board, the 43rd will have the opportunity to influence the Seattle City Council elections, state & federal races, King County elections, and the Washington State legislative sessions.

What’s a “reorg”? Reorg is how we choose our board to represent our membership, and is mandated by state law every two years. In the coming biennial, the 43rd will have the opportunity to influence the Seattle City Council elections, state & federal races, King County elections, and the Washington State legislative sessions.

At our January reorg meeting, we’ll elect every board position (see descriptions here). Only PCOs elected in 2022 (those who either filed and were unopposed or won their election) can vote for the following board positions:

We've got a full month in November! At our November 15 General Meeting, Senator Jamie Pedersen and Representative Frank Chopp will discuss their legislative priorities for the upcoming 2023 legislative session. They'll give us tips on how to engage with the legislative process, and you'll have an opportunity to ask questions.

November 15 General Meeting
At our November 15 General Meeting, Senator Jamie Pedersen and Representative Frank Chopp will discuss their legislative priorities for the upcoming 2023 legislative session. They'll give us tips on how to engage with the legislative process, and you'll have an opportunity to ask questions. (See the full agenda here.)
